Marco Travaglio at the LSE
Marco Travaglio is an Italian investigative journalist, writer and commentator. He spoke at the LSE in May to a full house of over 400 people.

Travaglio was born in Turin. He started his career writing for Catholic publications such as Il nostro tempo ("Our time"), then worked for the renowned journalist Indro Montanelli for newspapers such as Il Giornale and La Voce and gained the attention of Montanelli himself who once used to say about him: "No, Travaglio does not kill anyone with a knife. He uses a more refined and not legally issuable weapon: the archives"
Since 14 September 2006, Marco Travaglio has been a regular guest in the TV program AnnoZero, hosted by Michele Santoro.
Recently, Travaglio has contributed as a columnist to prominent national newspapers and magazines, such as La Repubblica, L'Unità (with his old columns "Bananas", "Uliwood Party" and "Zorro") and Micromega. He still contributes to "L'Espresso" with the column "Signorno'". In September 2009 he contributed to the formation of the independent newspaper, called Il Fatto Quotidiano ("The Daily Fact").
In 2009, the German Association of Journalists awarded Travaglio its yearly prize for Freedom of the Press, describing him as a "brave and critical colleague [...] exposing continually the attempts of Italian politicians, especially Silvio Berlusconi, to influence the media to their advantage and to negate critical reports.

Beppe Severgnini at the LSE

Thank you for attending Beppe Severgnini's lecture at LSE for the Italian Society on February 4th, 2010
Beppe Severgnini is one of the most famous and respected Italian journalists. He began his career in journalism at Il Giornale and quickly became the paper's London correspondent. In the period leading up to the fall of the Soviet Union he worked as special correspondent from Russia, China and several Eastern European countries

This event, organized by the LSE Italian Society, took place on Tuesday, January 26th at the Old Building Theater.
Beppe started the so-called ‘economic-ecological’ satire. His comedy covers politics, economics, health and environmental issues. After many years performing comedy in television, cinema, theatre and at major venues, he discovered the internet. In 2005 he started his celebrated blog, www.beppegrillo.it, one of the most popular blogs in the world. That same year, TIME Magazine nominated him as one of its ‘European Heroes of 2005’ and Forbes Magazine recently named his blog as one of the most influential in the world.

His successful artistic career has also been credited with several international awards. In 2002, Ludovico composed the original sound track of "Fuori dal Mondo" a Giuseppe Piccioni’s movie nominated in 2002 for an Oscar, for which he won the coveted Echo Klassiki award in Germany. Ludovico’s Music has been described as "minimalist, classical, ambient, contemporary, and deeply touching, the welcome sound of stillness in a hectic world". In 2008, the album "Divenire" has been nominated in the Classical Brit Awards as "Album of the year".
Giovanni Allevi at the LSE!

Allevi, pianist and composer of international fame, performed some of his most famous compositions at our university on March 17th.
Giovanni Allevi is a pianist, composer and conductor who graduated with top marks in piano and composition. He also holds a cum laude degree in Philosophy (he wrote his dissertation on “The Void in Contemporary Physics”). Allevi became a social phenomenon who shocked the musical Academia with his talent and charisma. He became part of the imaginary of the new generations, who pack the concert halls in which he plays and with whom he has a special relationship, which Allevi himself defines “mysterious”. Amongst the most recent of his many successful concerts and tours are the opening concert of his US tour at the New York Carnagie Hall and the 1st of September 2009 concert at the Arena di Verona, an historical event which was defined as the “Woodstock of contemporary classical music”; in this concert Giovanni conducted his symphonic music, played by the “All Starts Orchestra” (an orchestra of 90 musicians chosen form the world's best musical ensembles) in front of 12000 people. This concert was also released in a special CD/DVD edition.
